In July, we completed a beautiful window furnishing project in Malvern, 3144, where the brief was both practical and aesthetic: create two Roman blinds that would help darken a bedroom.

A considered design for unique windows

The dimension and location of the two windows was a key design concern. They were exceptionally tall, slender and flanked the bed. With their narrow proportions and prominent position, the windows called for a treatment that felt refined without overwhelming the room. We constructed two structured Roman blinds to sit neatly over each window. This choice created a balanced finish that blended well with the bedroom while providing much-needed control over incoming light.

Combining softness, structure and light control

The fabric selected for this project was Warwick’s Calais in Oatmeal. This is a 100% linen sheer with a natural character in an understated but warm colour. While the fabric brings a relaxed quality to the room, lining it was an important part of achieving the functionality required for a bedroom. The lining gives the Roman blinds greater structure, helping them maintain their crisp, tailored folds while also improving their ability to filter and reduce incoming daylight.

The finished blinds sit beautifully alongside the bed, drawing attention to the height of the windows without overpowering the minimal décor in the room. It’s a great example of how a carefully considered Roman blind can solve a practical lighting requirement while also becoming an integral part of the overall interior design.

This Malvern project turned out simple, tailored and timeless – a window treatment designed specifically for the space and the way the room needs to function.
