Zippy Sun Protection for a Elsternwick Living Room

Earlier this year we completed a Zipscreen installation in Elsternwick, 3185, helping a family make better use of their living room throughout the day. The room opened directly onto a private courtyard through a set of doors and windows, creating a lovely connection to the outdoors. However, that aspect also meant plenty of direct sunlight pouring into the room.

A cooler, more comfortable living room

During the warmer parts of the day, the sun would quickly heat up the space and create significant glare, making it difficult for the family to comfortably watch TV.

The solution was a Zipscreen installed across the full set of doors and windows. The screen provides a simple and effective way to manage the harsh sunlight while still maintaining the connection between the living room and courtyard. Thanks to the Somfy Altus motor and remote, that connection can be controlled with the push of a button.

A screen that complements the home

For this project, we used Vistaweave Plus 95 in Cappuccino. The neutral tone was a natural fit for the existing colour palette, sitting beautifully alongside the home’s cream-painted brickwork.

Vistaweave Plus also allows filtered light into the room, so the space doesn’t feel completely closed off when the screen is in use. Instead, it creates a softer, more comfortable environment while helping reduce the impact of direct sun and glare.

The finished installation is a great example of how the right external screen can improve both the comfort and functionality of a living space. By controlling the amount of sunlight entering through the courtyard-facing doors and windows, this Elsternwick family can enjoy their living room more comfortably without losing the open feel that made the courtyard connection so appealing.

It’s a practical upgrade that blends seamlessly with the existing home, making a noticeable difference to everyday living.
