There are homes where every room tells the same story, and then there are homes where every space has its own distinct personality. Our recent project in Lower Plenty, 3093, was very much the latter.
This was a home filled with eclectic glamour, transitional character and an incredible level of considered detail. From room to room, the design shifted in mood, texture and expression, creating a home that felt layered, individual and completely captivating. For us, the challenge was clear: the window furnishings needed to live up to the same level of craftsmanship and care that had gone into every other element of the home.
Working to the specs provided by Kate Walker Design, we created a collection of window treatments that complemented each space while allowing its unique personality to shine.
A Floaty Finish for the Main Ensuite
One of our favourite spaces in this project was the ethereal main ensuite. Soft, luminous and beautifully considered, it called for a window treatment that would feel almost weightless within the space.
The relaxed linen Roman blind that we installed acted as a floaty backdrop to the sumptuous bathtub. This softened the windows without competing with the architecture, finishes or other design elements. The gentle layer enhanced the sense of calm and escapism within the ensuite.
It is a great example of how the right window furnishing can do more than provide privacy or light control. It can become part of the atmosphere of a room, contributing to the way the space feels as much as the way it looks.
Matching Textiles, Layering Texture and Making a Statement
Throughout the home, textiles played an important role in building depth and character. One of the standout details was matching drapery textiles to wallpaper, creating a beautifully cohesive moment where pattern, colour and texture flowed seamlessly across the room.
In the cosy sitting rooms, we took a different approach, introducing layers of texture through the window furnishings to add warmth and softness. These rooms were designed for comfort and conversation, and the curtains helped support that inviting feeling.
The project also gave us the opportunity to showcase the versatility of Roman blinds. Across different spaces, we used Roman blinds which demonstrates just how transformative they can be. From refined and elegant to textural and decorative, each treatment was carefully considered in relation to the room around it, rather than simply being viewed as a practical addition to the windows.
The Tasselled Velvet Curtain We Can’t Stop Talking About
And then there was the curtain.
A rich, tasselled velvet curtain was used to conceal a particularly playful feature of the home: a concession-stand outside the home theatre room. When the curtain is pulled aside, the concession stand is revealed, adding a sense of theatre (quite literally!) to the space.
It is one of those details that captures what made this project so enjoyable. The home wasn’t afraid to have fun with its design. Glamour sits comfortably alongside personality, and practical elements became opportunities to create moments of surprise.
The velvet curtain became part of the experience, adding drama, texture and a touch of old-world theatricality.
A Window Furnishing Collection Designed for the Whole Home
For a project with such a diverse range of interiors, consistency didn’t mean making every window treatment look the same. Instead, it meant maintaining the same level of precision, quality and attention to detail throughout.
Every blind, curtain and finishing detail needed to feel intentional and beautifully made. We are incredibly proud of the workmanship we delivered and the way the finished window furnishings sit within the broader design of the home.
But while we’re proud of our contribution, this project was a true collaboration. It was a privilege to bring the window furnishings to life in a home where every room offered something new, and where every detail deserved to be just as carefully considered as the last.
