From Open Patio to Ultimate Alfresco Entertaining Space in Glen Iris 3146

A recent project in Glen Iris (3146) showcases how the right combination of smart shading and custom outdoor furnishings can completely transform an outdoor area. What was once an exposed patio has now become a comfortable and stylish alfresco entertainment space, perfect for relaxing or hosting family and friends throughout the year.

Smart Shade with Motorised Zipscreens

To enclose the patio while maintaining airflow and visibility, we installed six Zipscreen awnings using Vistaweave in 95 Flint. This high-performance mesh fabric provides excellent protection from sun, glare and insects while still allowing filtered natural light to enter the space.

Each awning is powered by Acmeda’s Automate motors, giving the homeowners effortless control over their outdoor environment. With the touch of a button, the screens can be raised or lowered to manage shade, privacy and weather protection. The sleek Flint colour also complements the home’s exterior, creating a modern and cohesive look while helping reduce heat and harsh sunlight during warmer months.

Custom Seating Designed for Outdoor Living

To complete the space, we designed and produced custom-fit bench cushions for the built-in seating area. Upholstered in Zepel’s Moment fabric in the colour Foliage, the cushions introduce a fresh tone that brightens the space and adds a welcoming layer of comfort.

Moment is a UV-stable outdoor upholstery fabric, meaning it’s specifically designed to handle Australia’s demanding outdoor conditions. It resists fading and wear while maintaining its colour and texture, ensuring the seating looks great and performs well for years to come.

A Patio Made for Entertaining

Together, the motorised Zipscreens and custom outdoor cushions have completely redesigned this Glen Iris patio. The space now offers shade, comfort and flexibility, creating an inviting alfresco area where the homeowners can entertain, dine or simply unwind outdoors in style.
